Head of Marketing and Events Programming

Fulham Pier

Positioned along the Thames and nestled by parkland, we’ve bought life to this pocket of South-West London by creating a unique destination that’ll be open morning, noon and night. Whether a visitor is looking to start the day with sunrise yoga, make space for mindfulness in their lunch break, try a pizza class with the kids or make a date with a glass of bubbles, there’s something for everyone.

Your role in this destination is to be the exceptional host, to make every visit a memorable experience, to make every day worth savouring. Fulham Pier is the heart of the community, and so are you.

Role

A senior management position, you will be responsible for ideating, generating and driving creative, marketing and PR initiatives on behalf of the club. You will also act as a brand guardian, partly focused on communicating and marketing to local members (in order to maximise engagement and retention), and to the public to drive awareness beyond the membership base.

Additional duties include:

  • Leading strategic thinking and execution around brand partnerships and extensions
  • Creating all content
  • Management of all internal and external marketing channels, tools and materials, as well as externally-appointed agencies
  • Delivering a monthly calendar of diverse, high-equity, innovative, credible D events, that drive club attendance and revenue, demonstrating to members that their membership fees have huge value
  • Building and nurturing important high-level relationships with event providers, organisations and creative groups in order to attract talent, and executing agreements for event collaborations with partner organisations and event providers
  • Co-managing a reporting manager, as well as managing all marketing and programming budgets

Marketing Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct communications projects and initiatives for Lighthouse Social through a combination of strategic multiplatform marketing, public relations, special events management, and creating brand awareness as required
  • Oversee the composition and distribution of all lines of communication to members, including newsletters, mail-outs, on-site brochures, posters and supplements as well as all digital content and information published on member-facing portals
  • Conceive and execute promotional marketing activities to help drive F&B sales in the club, including community building events, culinary programming, guest chefs, special menus and off-peak incentives
  • Ensure all programming events are correctly communicated and effectively marketed via Lighthouse Social channels
  • Lead the creation of tools and materials created by the club to promote the club’s services and offerings, including membership packs, making sure they closely adhere to the Lighthouse Social brand guidelines
  • Create and drive marketing activities aimed at members, helping to maintain both new applications (from friends and associates of current members) and renewals, primarily through innovative ‘community building’ members events in the club
  • Create and regularly refresh content for the Lighthouse Social website and member portal, ensuring club information and imagery, events, promotions and news are compelling, in the ‘style’ of the Lighthouse Social, and up to date
  • Manage and oversee the club’s social media output, ensuring posts have appropriate messaging and content, and generate awareness and desire, without ‘lifting the veil’, destroying mystique or violating member privacy
  • Manage an appointed PR agency for the Club, maintaining regular contact and information flow on a day-to-day basis
  • Establish short- and medium-term PR priorities, and support the PR agency to achieve effective, on-brand media coverage
  • Negotiate and implement partnership and sponsorship agreements with aspirational brands, organisations, venues and groups that fit the Lighthouse Social brand for joint events, promotions and initiatives that enrich the member experience and generate revenue.
  • Negotiate with local partner companies to secure exclusive benefits (or ‘perks’) for members such as preferential rates, discounts and advantages (which form part of the membership offering)
  • Manage a reporting Marketing and Event Programming Coordinator, setting clear objectives and monitoring performance against established KPIs
  • Manage all marketing and event programming budgets, ensuring spend is closely monitored and doesn’t exceed allocated resources
  • Monitor the marketing / communications and event activity of competitor members’ clubs, restaurants and hotels to ensure the Lighthouse Social is employing innovative, market-leading strategies when communicating
  • Compile and maintain regular status reports on current and planned marketing activity

Event Programming Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head of Membership and, via established relationships with a network of contacts across the entertainment, creative, event, intellectual and cultural industries, strategically plan and secure market-leading event opportunities for Lighthouse Social member programming
  • Secure event providers and programming opportunities to deliver needle-shifting event highlights for the club; where possible, this might involve talent from outside the market on tour or travelling in specially
  • Expand, nurture and build contacts and relationships in all relevant event spheres: Music, Art, Fashion, Design, Business, Architecture, Wellbeing, Food, Drink, Performing Arts, Current Affairs, Film, Entrepreneurialism, Theatre, Mentoring, Technology and more
  • Work towards securing major event programming coups and ‘money can’t buy’ experiences with access to inspirational leading personalities
  • Through observing current events and topical news, work with the Marketing team, and appointed PR agency to create event concepts that tap into the current zeitgeist; these might include charity-linked benefits to help a very prescient cause or a gathering that feeds off something in the news (such as a debate)
  • Attend major and significant events on a regular basis to liaise with talent, assist with event management and help ensure we capture content
  • Follow up, post events with membership and operations colleagues to conduct post-mortems and establish action plans going forwards, utilising this process to refine event planning and strategy

Preferred experience

  • A charismatic, highly social, and experienced senior marketing and communications professional most likely from a hospitality and/or entertainment background
  • An individual with proven experience delivering high profile curated cultural and creative events, with knowledge of the West London marketplace
  • Someone possessing a wide-ranging set of personal contacts, who is able to think laterally, identify innovative event opportunities and work through the deal-making, contracts and negotiations to secure them.
  • A gifted communicator, relationship builder and networker, familiar with managing marketing channels and campaigns, ideating content strategies, managing agencies and driving below-the-line activity
  • Someone with a talented eye for communications design, imagery quality and copy excellence, able to drive compelling content and messaging though promotions, emails, websites and social feeds with ease
